Learning Resources Policy
Purpose
This policy reflects Metavision Institute’s commitment to providing quality academic resources for staff and students, as outlined in the Strategic Plan and Teaching and Learning Plan. This policy guides the development of Metavision Institute’s library for its higher education courses and ensures that students have access to digital and physical library resources appropriate to their course and learning, and staff have access to contemporary resources for curriculum development and scholarship.
Scope
This policy applies to Metavision Institute’s staff and students enrolled in its higher education courses.
Definitions
Learning resources include printed texts, journals, videos, electronic resources, and other materials used to assist students studying in Metavision Institute’s higher education courses.

This policy aligns with Section 2: Learning Environment, Section 3: Teaching, Section 5: Institutional Quality Assurance and 7.2 Information for Prospective and Current Students in the Higher Education Standards Framework 2021.
Policy
The Learning Resource Policy is underpinned by the following principles:
- The development of Metavision Institute’s library collection and learning resources is aligned with the field of education of its higher education courses and scholarly priorities determined through consultation with staff and students.
- Metavision Institute ensures learning resources specified for courses and units are available to staff and students in the library collection and online, and include both seminal and contemporary texts and resources.
- The library collection and learning resources represent a variety of theoretical perspectives, and align with the principles of free intellectual enquiry and academic freedom.
- Metavision Institute is committed to identifying and removing barriers for students in accessing the library and learning resources, in line with the Anti-discrimination Policy and Student Welfare and Disability Policy.
- Metavision Institute undertakes periodical reviews of its library collection, learning resources, and management practices.
Implementation
- Course Coordinators will consult with academic staff, including members of the Academic Board, regarding priorities for developing the library collection in line with course and unit learning outcomes. Student feedback on the library and learning resources will also be taken into account.
- The Teaching and Learning Committee will make recommendations to the Academic Board about additional acquisitions or subscriptions.
- Course Coordinators regularly reviews the library collection and removes resources that are no longer relevant, out of date, or in poor condition.
- Any concerns about the selection or exclusion of material in Metavision Institute’s resource collection should be directed to the Academic Director. Where concerns are not resolved, the matter may be referred to the Academic Board.
Responsibilities
The Academic Board has responsibility for approval and oversight of this policy. The Academic Board makes recommendations to the Governance Board for investment in building and maintaining the library collection.
The Academic Director is responsible for implementing this policy, including:
- Enabling student access to the library collection,
- Establishing protocols for library loans and access to learning resources,
- Ensuring Metavision Institute complies with copyright laws and regulations,
- Recommending an annual budget for library acquisitions to the Governance Board, and
- Oversight of management and replacement of lost, stolen or damaged items.
Course Coordinators are responsible for:
- Providing high quality professional services that meet staff and student needs,
- Conducting information and training sessions as part of Orientation and staff induction, and
- Providing ongoing support on academic study skills to staff and students in on-campus
and online modes.
Staff and students are responsible for following rules and protocols for access to and use of the library and learning resources.
