Staff Induction Policy
Purpose
The policy provides the framework for induction of new higher education staff and contractors by their line managers at Metavision Institute. Metavision Institute is committed to ensuring that all staff members are fully inducted and trained in the policy framework, the courses, and the organisational structure and roles, to facilitate smooth transition and integration into the workforce.
Scope
This policy applies to the process of induction and orientation for all academic teaching staff and contractors, and to all members of Metavision Institute’s higher education community involved in the induction and orientation of new staff.
Definitions
Induction: the process of introducing new staff members and contractors into Metavision Institute by providing an overview of the history, vision, mission, values, policies, organisational chart and roles, operations and courses to provide a practical understanding of the position.

This policy aligns with the requirements outlined in Sections 3.2: Staffing, 5.1.2: Quality Assurance, 5.3: Monitoring, Review and Improvement and 6: Governance and Accountability in the Higher Education Standards Framework 2015.
Policy
- Following staff recruitment, selection and appointment of new staff members and contractors by Metavision Institute, line managers will provide a comprehensive induction process according to this policy.
- A completed induction checklist (refer to Appendix one) is to be signed off by the line manager by the end of the staff member’s or contractor’s first week of work, and stored in the new starter’s records.
Implementation
- New staff members and contractors of Metavision Institute will be introduced to colleagues, the head office and campus facilities, including kitchen and toilet facilities.
- New staff and contractors will be informed of:
• Work hours and meal breaks,
• Workplace health and safety requirements and considerations for Metavision
Institute’s Head Office and Moss Vale campus,
• Financial and payroll systems,
• How to apply for leave,
• The policy framework in electronic form, including the Anti-discrimination Policy, Workplace Health and Safety Policy, Critical Incident Policy, Staff Performance Review and Management Policy, and other staff-facing policies. - Academic staff members will be assisted to log into the learning management system to familiarise themselves with curriculum in their teaching area, and provided with training on the use of Zoom web conferencing and other educational technologies for teaching and learning functions.
- New staff members and contractors are provided with Metavision Institute email addresses, unique logons and authorised access to records as appropriate for their role. All staff and contractors are expected to comply with the Records Management Policy, Intellectual Property Policy and other relevant policies in their employment.
- All student-facing staff are to undertake professional development in identifying student wellbeing and safety concerns according to the Student Welfare and Disability Policy, including how to make referrals for students in need of student support services.
Responsibilities
The Academic Director and Executive Officer are responsible for implementation of this policy, and for consulting with the Governance Board and Academic Board as appropriate.
Line managers are responsible for the induction of new staff members.
