Academic TranscriptAn official record of a student’s enrolment, units undertaken, and results achieved.
AccreditationRecognition by a governing body that a course or institution meets specific quality standards.
AdmissionThe process of applying for and gaining entry into a course.
AssessmentTasks completed by students to demonstrate understanding and progress. Includes essays, presentations, exams, and practical demonstrations.
Bridging CourseA short course designed to help students meet entry requirements or prepare for study in a new field.
Census DateThe last date students can withdraw from a semester without financial or academic penalty.
Client Contact (Direct Client Contact or DCC)Hours where students directly engage with clients in a counselling setting during placement.
Client-Related Activities (CRA)Activities related to client support during placement, such as writing case notes, supervision, and planning sessions.
Counselling PlacementA period of supervised practical training in a professional counselling environment.
Credit TransferRecognition of prior study or experience that may reduce the number of units required to complete a course.
DeferralAn approved delay to the commencement or continuation of study.
EnrolmentOfficial registration in a course or unit.
FEE-HELPA government loan scheme to assist eligible students with tuition fees.
Full-Time StudyA study load typically consisting of 4 units per semester.
IntensiveA concentrated period of study, usually in-person, designed to cover course content over a few days.
Leave of AbsenceA period of approved leave from study, usually for personal or health reasons.
Learning OutcomesStatements of what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do after completing a unit.
Mid-Year IntakeA second opportunity in the calendar year to commence study, typically around July.
Part-Time StudyA reduced study load, usually two units per semester.
Personal TherapyA requirement for students to engage in their own therapy to support their development as practitioners.
Placement CoordinatorA staff member who oversees and supports students through their placement experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Assessment of existing knowledge or experience to grant course credit.
SemesterAn academic period, usually around 12–16 weeks, during which units are delivered.
Student Liaison OfficerA staff member available to support students with general wellbeing, admin, or study concerns.
SupervisionRegular meetings with a qualified supervisor to reflect on counselling practice and receive feedback.
UnitAn individual subject within a course.
WithdrawalThe formal process of discontinuing enrolment in a unit or course.
Zoom TutorialsOnline learning sessions held via Zoom, often weekly or fortnightly, to discuss unit content and support student learning.
