Supporting Your Learning Journey

Guiding your progress, wellbeing, and academic success.

At Metavision Institute, we see student progression as a shared journey.
Grounded in care, equity, and integrity, our approach ensures that every student is supported to grow, meet course requirements, and achieve their study goals in a way that honours their individuality.

Guiding Your Academic Growth

At Metavision Institute, we see student progression as a shared journey. Our approach is built on care, fairness, and proactive support — ensuring every student is set up to thrive both personally and academically.

Our Approach to Supporting You

Our commitment to your growth is grounded in these principles:

  • Early Support: We aim to identify any potential challenges early so we can offer the right guidance to help you complete your course successfully.

  • Inclusive Environment: We recognise that every student is unique. We’re dedicated to creating an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity for success, celebrating the richness and diversity of our community.

  • Championing Indigenous Students: We actively support the participation and completion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, ensuring culturally safe and responsive learning pathways.

  • Staying on Track: We’ll help you plan your study timeline and stay on course to complete your program within the expected timeframe.

  • Fair and Caring Processes: Our monitoring and support systems are designed to be transparent, compassionate, and centred around your individual needs.

  • Helping You Thrive: Ultimately, our goal is to help you reach your potential and experience success in every aspect of your learning journey.

Monitoring Your Progress

We regularly review student progress to ensure you’re supported at every stage of your studies.

  • We identify students who may be facing challenges at the end of each semester.

  • Any decisions about academic progress are made through fair and transparent processes.

  • We offer targeted support to students who may be at risk of not completing their course within the maximum candidature period.

Building Your Success

We want you to have the strongest possible foundation for your studies.

Here’s how we help make that happen:

  • Ensuring new students have the right preparation and support to succeed in higher education.

  • Providing clear information during Orientation and in each unit outline about academic requirements, progression, and support services.

  • Encouraging you to engage regularly with your online classroom on Sophia — staying connected is key to success.

  • Using assessments not just to measure progress, but to understand where you might need extra support and continuously improve our teaching and student care.

  • Offering constructive feedback to help you strengthen your skills and confidence as you move through your course.

Your Role in Progression

Your active participation plays an essential role in your success. You can support your own growth by:

  • Developing positive and consistent study habits.

  • Meeting attendance requirements for intensives and online sessions.

  • Logging in regularly to Sophia to stay engaged with your learning community.

  • Attending any required work-integrated placements.

  • Submitting assessments on time.

  • Letting your Course Coordinator know as soon as possible if unexpected circumstances arise — we’re here to help.

Academic Progress Rules and Support

You may be identified as at risk of unsatisfactory academic progress if you:

  • Need to repeat a unit more than once.

  • Experience difficulty in 50% or more of your total attempted units in a semester.

  • Are unable to meet the conditions of an agreed academic support plan.

Formal notification of unsatisfactory academic progress may occur if challenges continue over two consecutive semesters or after multiple attempts at the same unit.

To support you, we provide access to:

  • Academic advising and mentoring

  • Learning skills workshops and study resources

  • Tutoring and peer support programs

  • Referrals to counselling or disability support services

  • Assistance in developing a personalised learning plan

Special Consideration

Understanding Special Consideration

We understand that life doesn’t always go to plan. Sometimes, unexpected events can affect your ability to meet assessment or course requirements.
Special consideration is available when circumstances beyond your control — such as serious illness or injury (physical or mental), bereavement, or significant personal hardship — impact your studies.

If this happens, you can apply for special consideration using our Special Consideration Application Form, providing relevant supporting documentation.
Your application will be carefully reviewed by the Dean or their delegate, and you’ll be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

If you’ve received a progression warning, it may be reconsidered if you can demonstrate that you’ve addressed the underlying issues, engaged with support services, and have a clear plan for continued academic success.

Getting Support When You Need It

You’re never alone in navigating your academic journey.
Our Dean, Course Coordinators, and Student Liaison Officer work together to keep an eye on key indicators — such as attendance, assessment submissions, and unit results — to identify when extra support might be helpful.

If you’re finding things difficult, please reach out early. We’re here to listen, support you in exploring your options, and help you get back on track with care and understanding.

Understanding Probation and Exclusion

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, challenges may continue to impact your progress. When a formal progress review raises significant concerns, you may be placed on academic probation with clearly outlined conditions — such as a reduced study load or participation in additional support sessions — to help you get back on track.

The Progress Review Panel will determine the specific conditions and duration of your probation period. You’ll receive written notification of the decision within five (5) business days, including information about your right to appeal in accordance with the Student Grievance, Complaints, and Appeals Policy (Academic).

In rare cases where a student is unable to demonstrate satisfactory progress even after receiving appropriate support and opportunities for improvement, course exclusion may occur.
This decision is only made after all reasonable measures to support the student have been explored and exhausted, and always with care, fairness, and transparency.

For full details, please refer to the Student Progression Policy.

Taking Leave or Withdrawing from Your Course

At Metavision, we understand that life can bring unexpected changes. Sometimes, you may need to pause or reconsider your studies — and that’s okay.
Our policies are designed to support your wellbeing while maintaining the integrity and flow of your course progression.

Leave of Absence

If you need to take a temporary break from your studies, you can apply for a Leave of Absence by submitting the Course and Unit Withdrawal and Fee Refund Application Form before the relevant census date.

  • You may be granted up to two periods of approved leave during your program (up to a total of 12 months).

  • Re-enrolment is available at the start of the next teaching period aligned with your course structure.

  • Requests for additional leave beyond this timeframe must be approved by the Dean and may require evidence of extenuating circumstances.

Withdrawing from Your Course

If you decide to withdraw permanently from your course, please complete the same form.
Withdrawals made before the census date will result in a full refund of tuition fees for that unit (excluding non-refundable deposits).
Withdrawals after the census date are not normally eligible for a refund unless special consideration is granted.

Re-Entry After Extended Leave

If you take a break longer than 12 months, you’re welcome to reapply for entry at a later date.
Previously completed units may be eligible for credit transfer, provided they fall within the 10-year recognition limit outlined in our Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.
